Why did Louis XIV call the assembly of the estate general

Louis 16 had called the assembly of estate general to pass proposal for new taxes in Versailles

Louis 16 called up the General Assembly to pass the proposal of increasing taxes. In the old regime in France King cannot take decision of increasing taxes on their own so they have to call up an assembly for discussion and voting.
