Heya,
Its your answer:--
There are many reasons behind Macaulay’s proposition :-

First, Macaulay considered English as the most superior language in which a vast quantity of content was already present unlike Indian languages. He also believed that the content present in Indian language was not upto the standard of English. He also gave justifications for implementing English, and gave credit to English for the progress made by Russia and South Africa. We should also note that he was a British “Bureaucrat”. So it is inevitable that he would encourage his own country’s language in colonies because it would facilitate the administrative control of British government. It would also help British colonies in asia to engage in trade with ease and with English as common language, it would be a positive fillip to British economy. Moreover, the government funds were limited and they were not enough to educate the huge masses of Indian subcontinent. So, Macaulay proposed that government should spend money on educating in English medium. Further, the elite class of India would promote regional languages with their own efforts.
Hope it helps..
