Why did mahatma Gandhi call off the civil disobedience movement

Because of signing of Gandhi Irwin pact, Gandhi agreed to discontinue civil disobedient movement. After that gandhi went on to attend 2nd RTC but returned disappointed. ... He launched Individual civil disobedience on August 1, 1933. Civil Disobedience movement continued till April 1934 when gandhi formally withdrawn it.

◾Chauri - Chaura is a place in Uttar Pradesh . Here A group of people burnt a police station killing many innocent ones .

◾Thus , it had to be withdrawn when it turned violent in the place . Gandhi thought that the satyagrahis needed to be trained further before any mass struggle .
