Heyy
Here's the answer
Non Cooperation Movement was called off because of Chauri-Chaura Incident. The chauri chaura incident happened on 5th Feb 1922 in Gorakphur Dist, when a group of protester , participant of Non Cooperation Movement clashed with the local police.
The police open fired on the protester, which was followed by heavy retaliation from the protester, who later ended up burning the police station, Killing all its occupants.
Hope it helped!

People note Chowri Chowra station incident, but reason could be other, Gandhi was a introspective individual(in today's term an introvert) he felt that non violence is the only way towards freedom, he realised early that if freedom was to be taken by violence there always would be loss of Indian lives, to avoid this non violence was used as a tool of protest.
These days you hear a lot of criticism of Gandhi, but one needs to understand him by his writings and his actions and the kind of person he really was rather than referring to media.
He took back the support, so that people could introspect, you can never imagine any present day leader doing that, that was the intellect ,self effacing and uniqueness of Gandhis nature.
