The movement which was called off by Mahatma Gandhi was the Non-cooperation movement. ... He wished the movement to be violent free, and with the violence being stuck at chauri chaura, Gandhi had no other option than to call of Non Cooperation Movement. This was called off because of the chauri chaura incident.

Mahatma Gandhi decided to call off Non cooperation movement due to CHAURI CHAURA INCIDENT. People ( peasants ) of India created violence and killed 20 policeman which was against the ideal of Gandhiji. Hence he called off the movement
