Answer: Gandhiji found salt a powerful symbol that could unite the nation, because salt was a commodity consumed by both poor as well as rich. High taxes on salt prevented the poor from using it. So Gandhiji began the Salt Satyagraha in order to break the Salt Law made by the British.
