Mahatma Gandhi opposed western education because it created a sense of inferiority in the minds of Indians . It made them see the western people as superior and themselves as inferior . It destroyed their self respect and the dignity that they had toward their country .

He advocated practical learning rather than literature (learning how to read and write).

According to him education is mental physical spiritual and practical development through knowledge . Education should develop the skills of mind by doing some craft along with attaining practical education
