Why did mahatma gandhi use salt as a weapon to launche the civil disobedience movement?

Salt was chosen as the central formula in civil disobedience moment because it was a commodity that every Indian could relate, be it poor,middle class,rich,dalits or brahman all used salt alike. Gandhi ji wanted to make the people aware about the oppressive policies which in this case was the ban on manufacturing of salt . He had a symbol in salt which had the potential to unite each and every community in India which had been a major shortcoming of the earlier Non-Cooperation Movement.

Khilafat movement also called as non cooperation movement .It was simply an attitude towards british that they will not cooperate with British people in any of the aspect .

Ghandi ji supported it because he wanted India to be independent.
