Gandhiji withdrew the movement because he saw that the movement was turning violent. People set fire in police station at Chauri Chaura which killed 22 police men and he thought that satyagrahis were to be more trained before the lauch of such a large mass agitation.

The non-cooperation movement was the first major movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi.

• It was launched in the year 1921.

• The main reasons for launching this movement were Jillianwala Bagh Massacre, Khilafat movement, Rowlatt act etc.

This movement was participated by a mass number of people.

Gandhi was planned to launch Civil-Disobedience movement at the same time.

• But, this movement turned into violence after the Chauri Chaura incident.

• Chauri Chaura is a village in Uttar Pradesh. The people of Chauri Chaura burnt the nearby Police station where 22 policemen were killed.

• Hence, Gandhi withdrew Non - cooperation movement.

Gandhi wanted the movement to move in a peaceful way.
