Reasons behind selecting pea plant for his experiments are as follows-

1. Pea plant was very readily or easily available.

2. The life span of the pea plant was very short compared to other plants.

3. Natural self pollination was possible.

4. It was possible to produce large number of offsprings within few days or in a short period.

5. Many contrasting traits were available in a pea plant.

6. Also cross pollination was possible in the pea plant.

From his experiments he concluded the following

1. A pair of unit factor control the every genetic character.

2. If in the same individual two unit facotrs are present then only one can express its factor and it was names as law of dominance.

3. A gamete gets only single factor out of the two factors during the gamete formation it was named as law of segregation law.

4. In hybrid means if two pairs of traits are combined then the segregation of the one pair character is independent of the other pair of characters, this is known as law of independent assortment.
