1.Many variaties were available in alternative form of a character.
2.Varities were available in pure form that bred true, ie. Produced the same type of generation after generation.
3.Peas are normally self pollinated but self pollination could be prevented by removing corresponding reproductive parts of the flower and could as well be cross pollinated artificially.

Mendel had selected pea plant due to following reasons:-
1) because pea plants had a no.of clear cut differences which were easy to tell apart .
2) a new form of plant resulting from a cross (or breeding) of different varieties of a plant known as a hybrid ...
3) because life cycle of pea plant is short.so , he can experience it's several generation..
