Miss Sullivan gave Helen a doll to play and tried spelling d-o-l-l in her hand, which at once caught Helen's fancy. Helen managed to imitate the movements of her fingers with childish pleasure and pride, though she was not aware of the fact that Miss Sullivan was trying to teach her the name of the thing.
