Mother Teresa taught at, and eventually became principal of, St. Mary’s High School in Calcutta from 1931–1948.
She left the high school in 1948 in order to begin what would become her life mission: Ministering to the poor, the sick, and the afflicted of Calcutta. She received permission to embark on her new calling, and it was at that point she donned the blue and white sari that the wore for the rest of her life, and that her sisters in the order wear today.
