The narrator wanted to see all her those things which her mother gave Mrs. Dorling during the war. So, that's why she went to Mrs. Dorling house. But she refused to recognise her. And aslo didn't allow her to came in her house. She taught that the narrator would take all those things from her whose she take care for many years. After seeing the narrator in her house she taught she definitely can to take her all. those things which were connected to her past. But she don't want to loose all those things. So, that's why she refused to recognise the narrator.

Mrs. Dorling took with her vases, crockery, plates etc. during the war. By saying that she would return all those things to narrator back.
