Why did Mrs. Pumphrey call Mr. Herriot?

In the story "the triumph of surgery" Mrs Pumphrey has a dog, named Tricki. Dr Herriot is a doctor of Tricki. The dog was very fat and greedy. The doctor advised not to give excessive food.
After some time he was getting ill. Then Mrs Pumphrey finally realised she has to admit her dog into the hospital. Then Mrs Pumphrey makes a call to Dr Herriot.
