He came out with the idea of token currency one fine morning as he announced the issue of new bronze coins muhr-i mis replacing high value silver coins known as tanka . The coinage till then valued equal to the value of the metal used. So it was a revolution of sort for a medieval state in Indian subcontinent though not an innovation in strict sense of the term. The Delhi Sultan was influenced by the success of Qublai Khan in China who is credited with inventing the token currency.
