Muhammad Bin Tughlaq wanted to shift his capital from Delhi to Devagiri (which he renamed as 'Daulatabad' ) because it was equidistant from Delhi , Telengana and other important places of the sultanate.
It had the following ill effects:
a) Daulatabad was far from the north Indian Kingdoms and hence there was a possibility of revolt by the Hindu Rajputs at any time .
b) Shifting of capital also exposed Delhi and other states of the sultanate to attacks by the mongols who frequently raided the northwestern frontiers of India.
