why did Muhammad of Ghazni attack India

Mahmud of Ghazni came to power as Emir of Ghazni by overthrowing his own brother Ismail of Ghazni in the Battle of Ghazni on 998 AD.

Soon after overthrowing his brother Mahumd started expanding his territories. He captured Kandahar region and the Lashkar Gah region in the current day Afghanistan and militarised the cities.

His initial intentions were expansion but later when he invaded India by defeating the Hindu Shahi Dynasty, he realised how fertile and wealthy the Indian subcontinent was and later turned his attention towards India.

He took a vow that he would raid and loot India once a year.

This shows how wealthy our Kingdoms were
