Transfer of Capital by Tughlaq :

• Muhammed Bin Tughlaq wanted to shift the capital from Delhi to Devagiri.

• Devagiri was renamed as Daulatabad.

The reasons for the shifting of capital were :

•The frequent Mongol invasions and desire of Muhammed bin Tughlaq having a centrally located capital.

• Hence, Muhammed bin Tughlaq ordered the people to shift from Delhi to Daulatabad.

• In their way, many people lost their life and many became homeless.

• Realising his mistake, Tughlaq ordered people return to Delhi which was a double torcher.

• Transfer of Capital was one of the reasons for unpopularity of Tughlaq.

Answer:

Muhammad Bin Tughlaq drop the idea of developing Daulatabad is a second or alternative capital because -

He believed that Daulatabad was more centrally located and was equidistant from Delhi, Gujarat, Malabar and Kampilla.

However he was forced to return to Delhi because he realised that just as it was difficult to control South India from Delhi, it was equaldifficult to control Delhi while sitting in the Daulatabad. So he asked him people to move back to Delhi.
