Muni is the central character of the story A Horse and Two Goats by R K Narayan. He loved gossiping whenever he could about various people in the village. Whenever he indulged in local gossip with the shopkeeper it always lasted for a few minutes. At the end of the gossip, he always made it a point to refer to the postman’s wife. The postman’s wife had eloped with someone else to the city a few months ago.
It was the reference to the postman’s wife as part of the gossip that pleased the shopkeeper greatly. This is because he considered the postman his enemy because the latter had once cheated him. So, listening to anything bad that happened to the postman gave him immense pleasure and happiness.
