The "London Times" of 31 August 1857, painted Nana Sahib as the Villian of the Revolt of 1857.

Nana Sahib born as Dhondu Pant, was an adopted son of the exiled Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao II.

Thus, he believed himself to be entitled for a pension from the English East India Company.

The Company refused, and this made Nana to revolt against them.
