Ram went to the forest for many reason.The first and foremost was to obey the promise that his father Dasharath,has made to Kailey, his mother r step mother.Another reason was because he had to kill ravan , which needed a series of events happen,and his vaanvas and sita's kidnapping was one of them.The last reason was to met his devotees who were in the forest,like Hanumaan,Vibhishan,Shanti and many more saints and sages.There are many more reasons ,but these r a few bigger ones.
