Secondly, World War 1 started when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist and declared war on Serbia thinking it was a plot by the Serbian government. However, Serbia's allies also declared war on Austria-Hungary while the German empire and the Ottoman empire backed up Austria-Hungary.
