Answer:

Nationalist tensions emerged in the Balkans because of the spread of ideas of romantic nationalism as also the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire that had previously ruled over this area. The different Slavic communities in the Balkans began to strive for independent rule.

Answer: Hey there...

Explanation: Nice question from the 1st chapter...

The Balkans was a region of geographical and ethnic variations comprising modern-day Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, and many more. A large part of this area was under the Ottoman Empire. The spread of romantic nationalism got paired up with the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire. These two reasons made the area very explosive. They based their claims for independence by using history and saying that they had been an independent area and were subsequently subjugated.

As these, demands rose, the tensions among this area increased as all Balkan states were very much diverse and jealous of each other. Each state was in the hope to gain more territory than others.
