Why did nazis gas people instead of working them all to death?

Nazis hated people so much that they did not want them even for a moment. People could have been given even terrible and painful death, but they did not do so. Nazis wanted to get away from them as soon as possible. Nazis were not at all smart and intelligent like us, the Nex-Gen. They should have had thought twice before giving them such an easy and painless death. Probably a painful and terrible death would have put the Nazis' image down. They did not prove their cruelty like this. They would become unpopular.
