Napoleon really was a visionary, and he transformed France and much of Europe. He was also a warmonger, but he was no Hitler. It's true that he subverted the ideals of the Revolution and established a dictatorship in its place, but the Revolution had already gone sour anyway, with the Terror. He returned the nation from a state of lawlessness and riot to one of stability and order, albeit imposed by force.
