Because after Calcium, this rule was not applicable. After Calcium, every next eighth element doesn't possess the similar properties.

The reasons due to which Newlands' law In of octaves was discarded are:-
1. His law was only applicable till calcium and after calcium every ninth element had same properties as the first element
2. He assumed that there's only going to be 56 elements which was proved wrong later when new elements were found.
3. In order to fit all elements, Newlands adjusted two elements in same slots like cobalt and nickel in the same slot and in the column with fluorine, chlorine and bromine which have different properties than cobalt and nickel.
