➡Hindu women in the 19th century were married off at a very young age. Since widow remarriage was usually restricted at that time, once their husbands died, the women were forced to jump into their husband's funeral pyres. This custom was called as sati. The widow had to burn alive with her husband's funeral pyre.
➡There are various 19th Century Reformers who tried to alleviate the position of women in the Indian Hindu society because the condition of 'young Hindu widows were miserable'.
