No one believed Horace because the lady he ran into while he was in the house, claimed to be the wife of the owner. Horace had never seen the owner's wife before and also got nervous because of which he didn't thought of anything else. Horace was tricked by the lady who claimed to be the wife of owner but she was not. Horace didn't know the reality and all he knew was that she was the wife who told her to take out jewels from the safe.

Nobody believed him because the orignal wife of the owner's was not there in the house that night. It was the theif who introduced herself as the wife. Horace was tricked and didn't know that she was faking it being the wife therefore no one believed him.
