Here's Your Answer
None of the characters in the poem The cold within shared their wood because of the malice that they had in their heart.
In the start of the poem, The poet recollects the memory of a tale he has heard, of six persons caught together in the grip of a severe winter.
✨The first person, as we get to know, withheld his log from the fire only because he didn't want to benefit the black person. He was held back by his Racist attitude. (Racism)
✨The second person looked across the fire and saw someone who he knew wasn't if his relegion. He was held back by intolerance. (intolerant)
✨The third person was a poor man, who sat in tattered clothes. He didn't give his log to the file because he didn't want to benefit the rich. He thought that the rich don't work and feed on poor peoples money. (discriminated)
✨The fourth one was the Rich man. Caught up hoarding his riches in his head, he is oblivious to reality. Greed blinds him as he selfishly thinks ofo keep his wealth. He doesn't want to form the lazy and shiftless poor. (Selfish)
✨The fifth person was black. We know that the black person had experienced racism. He would perish, but he would take the white people, he hated down, with him as well.(vengeance)
✨ We get to know that the last person of the group was really selfish and he wouldn't give his log to fire for free.
Racism, envy, discrimination, and prejudice play an important role in this poem as these were the qualities of the six humans because of which they wouldn't give their log to the Fire.

Answer:
The cold Within, the poet has shown how people are divided all over the world based on some narrow considerations like racism, religion hatred, class distinction and prejudice.
In the poem the six ''humans'' where there around the dying fire and everybody had a stick to give the fire a new lease of life.
But no one came to share their wood because they had hatred in the mind for others.
The first woman had racism against black people, Another man had ill feelings for people with other religious believes different from his.
The third man was prejudice against the rich people for he was poor, The forth had prejudice against poor people for he was rich and greedy.
The firth was a black man and he wanted to take revenge against the white people for they had always ill treated their race.
The last man was narrow minded and wanted to share his wood only in exchange for something else.
This is highly symbolic of the foolishness of people's ill feelings against their fellow men.
If people are not broad minded enough then they can never enjoy a happy and peaceful life. This is the role the poet wanted to convey against discrimination, envy and racism in the play The Cold Within.
