Why did America not intervene in Myanmar?

For one thing Myanmar is remote country as far as the US is concerned that shares neither historical,m nor cultural links nor the colonial experience, apart from its engagement with Aung San Suu Kyi during the Obama era, it is really in the back9yards of India and China.

Furthermore with the oil in the Midde East already tied strategically to its paper dollars Myanmars natural resources do not appear likely to figure too strategically into its existential world view and global power equations.

Then too it would not be prudent for the US in its global ambition to remain relevant as numero uno Superpower to alienate the ASEAN countries of which Myanmar is one and whose mutual nonintervention policies in the conduct of their relations to eacy other would make them dead set against any unilateral intervention by the US.

STiil The US while continuing with voicing support for Suu Kyi and NLD and condembations of atrocities committed against the demonstrators and protestors and the people of Myannar should in the meantine keep the pressure on the military for a just and equitable settlement unabated.

At the same time the US in working in tandem with ASEAN could also prompt it to strengthen its mediarory role and to exhaust all the posdibilities offered by the role now challenged with novel risks as well as opportunities to prove that ASEAN is after all a useful and relevant regional organisation that can defebd its interests and the interests of its members. .
