the narrator didn't like his father carry luggage. yet he couldn't stop him from carrying his luggage. from time to time it crossed in his mind that it was improper for him to let his father carry his luggage. he wanted to tell him that he would like to carry the trunk himself ,but his guilt and shame did not allow him to do so.
