First, it is very unlikely that anybody outside of Paris knew what the Bastille was.

Second, even though the Bastille was a symbol of royal power and it played some part in the event, the main reason people stormed the Bastille was to get weapons and amnunition as the fortress was the main armory in Paris at that time.

Actual hatred played little to no part.
