Answer:
Everyone had, of course, heard of the ‘dragon kite’ that Mahmood had built, and word went around that it possessed supernatural powers. A large crowd assembled on the maidan to watch its first public launching in the presence of the Nawab. At the first attempt, it did not budge from the ground. The disc made a plaintive, protesting sound, and the sun was trapped in the little mirrors, making the kite a living, complaining creature.
Then the wind came from the right direction and the dragon kite soared into the sky, wriggling is way higher and higher, with the sun still glinting in his devil-eyes; When it went very high, it pulled fiercely on the twine, and Mahmood’s young sons had to help him with the reel. But still the kite pulled, determined to be free, to live a life of its own.
And then it happened. The twine snapped, the kite leapt away towards the sun, sailed on until it was lost o view. It was never found again, and Mahmood wondered afterward if he had made too vivid, too living a thing of the great kite.
Hope it helps...

The question is from the story "The Kite Maker" by Ruskin bond. Mehmood the kitemaker had made a special kite for the nawab. It was a lot different from any kind that people had never seen before. People believed that the kite had supernatural powers. There were three reasons for this- (1) the shape of the kite, (2)mirrors used in place of eyes, and (3) the kite's eventually breaking free.
(1) The shape of the kite: Mehmood skillfully made the kite using many different sized discs. So the kite had " an undulatory form" that made it look like a snake. At the time of its launch the discs collided with each other and seemed to make a noise, quite like a living thing would make "a protesting sound".
2)Mirrors used in place of eyes: Additionally, Mehmood had used mirrors in place of eyes. When the sun shone, the mirrors gleamed and it seemed like the eyes were real. They made the kite look like "a living complaining creature".
3) The kite's behaviour: Further, when the kite had risen into the sky, it behaved as it wanted to "live a life of its own" and so it "pulled fiercely on the twine" and finally "leaped away toward the sun". Mehmood and his sons had a difficult time trying to control the kite. Eventually, it broke the twine and freed itself.
Thus, the shape of the kite, its eyes as well as the manner in which it flew made everyone believe that it was alive and had supernatural powers.
