The poet went to the dentist to get her teeth examined. She had developed cavities in her teeth due to unhealthy eating habits and irregular brushing of teeth. She could have avoided it if she had taken proper care of her teeth by brushing them properly and regularly.

The poet had a toothache and now she regrets that if she had looked after her teeth well , then should never suffer toothache. She could keep the cavity away from her teeth if she would have some precautions in eating toffees and all sugar coated sweets.

The poet wishes that she should have taken care of her teeth . She should not have thought about eating of a large and hard sweet , she would have spent her money on the eatables that might not cause harm to her teeth.

The poet here regrets that now she is suffering from toothache . She should have remained this to think when she, was busy in eating different types of candies, lollies and all sweets at the young stage. Because excessive eating of those eatables invited cavities to attack on her teeth.

Now the narrator thinks that she had never brushed her teeth well. If she had known about the importance of proper brushing she would never have suffered from toothache.

The poet says that if she had known that by eating sweets all the day and by not cleaning her teeth regularly, she was inviting cavities, caps and decay to her teeth, she would avoid all the sweets. Now she realises that she was facing the pain of injections and drills only because she had never looked after her teeth.

The poet says that it is all the result of her uncarefulness about the cleaning of her teeth, that made her to sit in the dentist's chair and staring at his face desperately . She does not like the sound of his drill machine which is used to fill the cavities of teeth.

The dentist told her that he would use two amalgum to fill his decay of teeth. Now the poet reminds that she used to laugh at her mother for her false teeth. But it seems that those false teeth were calling her. This is all of her uncleanliness of teeth.
