Why did political leaders differs sharply for the kota of separate electrate for dalits and Muslims
Answers
The political opinion differs sharply when it comes to Dalits and Muslims.
But, not all Muslims are subjugated.
Just like there exist high castes and low castes and Dalits in the Hindu community, similarly , there exists caste divisions within Islam too.
In India; there exists the Ashrafs and the non Ashrafs.
The non Ashrafs are the ones who are numerically more, but have a social status similar to Dalits.
Thus, if a quota is introduced, there would be many hurdles and problems to cross.
Political leaders held different opinions over the question of separate electorates because of the differences in their opinion. They all believed in the different outcomes of separate electorates. The leaders supporting the minorities and the Dalits believed that it was only political empowerment that would abolish social backwardness, while others like Gandhiji thought that separate electorates would slow down the process of integration.
