- Portia shows she is more fond of Bassanio than the other two suitors when she advises him to wait a day or two before making his choice of the three caskets. She says this because she wants him to choose the right one and become her spouse.

Portia had disguised herself as a lawyer to save Antonio. No one knows that the lawyer in disguise is Portia. Portia had told the others that she would be going to a monastery to live as a nun whilist Bassanio went to Venice. In addition to that Portia also fooled her husband by taking the wedding ring from him whuch Bassanio promised to not lose it. She wanted to reach hime a day earlier so that Bassanio wouldn't know that Portia had gone away from home and thus give her a chance to trick and tease Bassanio about the lost ring.
