The pret lived in the branches of an old peepul tree which had grown  through the compound wall of the author’s residence. The peepul tree had spread  into the garden on one side and over the road on the other side.  The pret lived happily in the tree until one day when the tree was cut down by the  Public Works Department. The department wanted to widen the road and hence  had to demolish the tree and the wall. Deprived of the tree which was his home, the  pret soon found the author’s house to be his abode and shifted there.
