Why did Rani Laxmibai fight against the British in 1857?

After her husband's death, Lakshmi (the Rani) may have resisted taking up arms against the British if it hadn't been for her anger at being disinherited from ruling Jhansi due to the 'Doctrine of Lapse' law instigated by the East India Company.
