Ruskin Bond in his Childhood was often considered impractical by his friends because he had some issues regarding his emotions and he behaved differently unlike his friends. Though not psychologically backward the young Ruskin bond was often kept out of the queue because of these reasons.

He stuck to his passion of writing, even though he was not making much money out of it.
He was not good at any other work, including driving, biking, fixing electricals, buying vegetables, cooking etc.
However, he was good at typing, drafting papers, making bed, walking long distances and helping students write love letters.
Since he was not good at anything normal, his friends thought he was impractical.
