↪Rutherford used gold for hisscattering experiment because gold is the most malleable metal and he wanted the thinnest layer as possible.The gold sheet used was around 1000 atoms thick. Therefore, Rutherford selected a Gold foil in his alphascatttering experiment.

Hey mate !!! Answer :- Because gold is mallable and is thinner. By the experiment only one ray out of 20,000 rays were reflected. Hope it helps :)
