Since indigo destroys the fertility of the field the farmers could not grow any other crop.

the riots turned against indigo cultivation as the cultivation, irrigation and production of indigo required a quite large area and the indigo cultivation required a huge amount of labour and even the british people use to buy it at a very low rate. Once on one big piece of land the indigo cultivation was done the land would not be used by anyone as if it is barren
