Samudragupta succeeded his father, Chandragupta I, in 335 CE, and ruled for about 45 years. He conquered the kingdoms of Ahichchhatra and Padmavati early in his reign, then attacked neighboring tribes, including the Malwas, Yaudheyas, Arjunayanas, Maduras, and Abhiras.In Dakshinaputha, there were twelve rulers. They surrendered to Samudragupta after being defeated and he then allowed them to rule again. Samudragupta adopted different policies because Dakshinapatha was far away from his capital; Since the means of transport were primitive, it was difficult to keep them under control.
