Settlements are places where people intend to build their homes and try to interact with one another. They carry out many different occupational activities so that it helps in making their life more comfortable.

There are 2 types of habitat settlements - Temporary and Permanent.

The permanent settlements are of different types - like the rural and the urban settlements.

The early settlements started with the invention of agriculture and living in sheltered homes close to their agricultural lands instead of roaming around from place to place in search of food and shelter like the early nomads did.

With time, the settlements increased on the riverside as the availability of water was more and the fertility of the land helped in agriculture. Slowly, the increase in commerce, trade, and transport increased the possibility of human habitat settlements.
