Why did shahid Ali ask the narrator to write something about him after his death

Shahid wanted Amitav to write about him after his death because the former wanted the latter to remember him even after he would be gone forever. Shahid wanted himself to be remembered through written words, not just spoken words. Shahid knew Amitav was also a literary man like him; he knew only Amitav colud do justice to writing an authentic account of him. So he made Amitav promise that he would write about him after his fast approaching death.
