The news of his father’s arrest reached Shivaji Raje. He thought out a brilliant strategy .He wrote a letter to Aurangzeb meaning that all he did against Vijapur was as a Sardar willing to join Mogal empire and that he is ready to attack Vijapur as a Mogal Sardar with help from them. The news about the letter was then deliberately leaked.Obviously Adilshah got scared and release Shahji Raje with dignity. But he took one care .He send Shahji Raje to far south corner of his domain as subedar of Thanjavur there by avoiding the threats of Shahji Raje joining his son.

Shahji Raje ruled Thanjavur prant like an independent King with minimum interference from Vijapur. His wives and children and other family members were with him at Thanjavur. Obviously he couldn't help or join hands with his beloved son Shivaji.

Even though Shahji Raje was away ,his blessings were always there with Shivaji Raje.

Answer:

After destruction of the Bahmani empire ,the dakkhan (dakshin/South) was ruled by four powers in early seventeenth century.they were

Nijamshahi from Ahemadnagar.

Adilshahi from Vijapur

Kutubshahi from Golkonda(near Hyderabad)

Besides these powers ,the Mogal empire of Dilli was strched up to Burhanpur(khandesh) and Aurangabad in Marathwada.Aurangabad was the seat of subedar of dakkhan.
