Why did slave trade flourish in the 17th century in France????
Answers
Explanation:
The slave trade in France began during the 18th century when the merchants from France sailed the African coasts and obtained slaves from the provincial chieftains. These serfs were then stamped, chained and then fastened tightly into vessels for a period of 3 months for their long voyage beyond the Atlantic to the Caribbean. They were then sold to the plantation owners who employed them to the plantation of coffee, sugar and indigo. In the year 1791, the Constitution of France abolished slavery, but it was not executed in all the colonies of French. It is in the year 1848, that slavery was eventually abolished in French colonies.
