Why did small pox kill a large number of native Americans?

Small pox viruses were used by the Europeans when they reached the shores of America to kill all the Native Americans .

They got killed because at that time the vaccination for small pox were not discovered and so they took this opportunity and killed many people around different colonies and not only in America.
