Why did some countries, including India, realize the need of reducing the birth rate?

Because they thought that increased population can disrupt the livings of people In such a case people cannot meet their basic needs like food ,water etc..
Also there will be no employment for all people,no available educational facilities etc...
As people will face lot of problems the countries tried to reduce birth rate and control population.
