why did some leaders did not agree to the creation of states on linguistic basis ? what made them to agree it later

both prime minister jawaharlal nehru and deputy prime minister sardar patel were against the formation of states based on linguistic lines

indian leaders felt that division of states on linguistic basis can be a threat to growth of nationalism.

however strong protests came from the telugu speaking districts of what was the madras presidency.

after the creation of andhra other linguistic communities also demanded their own separate states. as the result states reorganisation was set up in india,in 1956

states reorganisation commission was framed to give a report recommending the basis for the division of the country on linguistic states.
